RAIN didn't stop an important training exercise on the Richmond River at Ballina yesterday afternoon that involved a number of rescue organisations.

Air Force personnel from No.1 Squadron and the Evans Head Air Weapons Range arrived in Ballina yesterday to support the exercise.

Other organisations involved included Marine Rescue units, the Jet Boat Rescue and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter. The Air Force search and rescue helicopter and the Westpac heli

copter took turns winching a simulated casualty from the Marine Rescue boat.

Officer-in-charge of the Evans Head Air Weapons Range, Flight Lieutenant Jason Van Rysbergen, said: "The joint activity provides vital training for the different agencies involved in search and rescue operations."
