Shoppers out in force in the 11th hour before Christmas
SHOPPERS were out in force in the lead up to Christmas with many taking advantage of the extended trading hours.
Tweed Heads Chamber of Commerce president and Good Guys South Tweed owner Rory Curtis said it was busy.
"It's Christmas. This happens every year," Mr Curtis said.
Murwillumbah has also had its fare share of shoppers with reports that the town centre was chaotic on Christmas Eve.
Murwillumbah District Business Chamber president Toni Zuschke said the town was packed in the lead up to Christmas.
"So far a lot of retailers have said they have been flat out," Mrs Zuschke said.
"We have really pushed buying local and it seems to have worked really well for us.
"It (retail spending) has been pretty consistent in the lead up to Christmas."
Mrs Zuschke said she spoke to an owner of a camping supply shop in Murwillumbah who reported brisk trade.
"I think that's been reflective of people looking to save money by going camping instead of staying in places like resorts," she said.
Boxing Day sales were expected to be another windfall for retailers.
