Seagulls soar in weekend of wins
IT was a weekend of victories for Tweed's football teams.
Following on the success of the Murwillumbah Mustangs' grand final win over the Grafton Ghosts, Tweed Heads Seagulls were the next to join the victory celebrations.
The Seagulls showed skills and a ton of grit to overcome Wynnum-Manly 19-18 in the Intrust Cup qualifying final in Brisbane on Sunday.
The victory means the Seagulls will now meet minor premiers Redcliffe Dolphins in next week's major semi-final at Redcliffe.
Wynnum will clash with Norths Devils who tossed Ipswich Jets in the elimination final on Saturday.
Meanwhile in Gold Coast Soccer, Murwillumbah Football Club posted a 2-0 win over Tweed United in the second leg of their first division major semi-final at Arkinstall Park on Saturday to take the short route to the grand final in a fortnight.
MFC won the first leg at home 2-1.
Simon Hercombe notched his goal in the first half and the club's second was scored by Bryce Ruthven.
Coach David Lonie described the victory as a "good team performance" but when pressed, singled out Hercombe, Sam Reynolds, Adam Rogers and stand-in skipper Kurt Buchanan as MFC's best.
