Sam Kekovich hits Kingscliff
THE police weren't called to Friday's Coles Sam (Kekovich) and Lamb prize party at Kingscliff.
The boys and girls in blue missed out by not getting a noise-complaint that night.
Which is a surprise considering the special and less-than-subtle guest in attendance.
Endless wine, beer, lamb and Lambassador Sam Kekovich himself were on the menu until about 11pm.
Winner Reon Felsman, and partner Amanda Hinze, said Kekovich was "larger than life".
"He was really witty and, if you came back with something, he had about 10 comebacks at the ready," Mr Felsman said.
"He came in and introduced himself and made himself at home.
"He had everyone in hysterics."
Among the mountains of lamb Mr Felsman said catering staff produced some "French-cut lamb chops".
"We went through a fair bit and there's plenty of leftovers.
"Sam just spoke about being the Lambassador, promoting Australian lamb and congratulated us for winning.
"We just had about 20 close friends there and everybody got photos with Sam."
An Australian Lamb and Coles representative were also on hand to enjoy the night.
Mr Felsman said he was relieved former North Melbourne AFL player Kekovich was down to earth and willing to chat with everyone.
"A lot of times when you go to a sporting thing they can be stand-offish.
"He went back for seconds and thirds - he absolutely loves lamb.
"He says what he thinks, and a lot of the time it seemed to come from the heart."
