Rudd to visit Tweed for candidates
THE Labor Party has bought in political heavyweights to help boost the chances of its candidates for the Tweed Shire Council elections.
Kevin Rudd will visit the Tweed next week to launch the campaigns of Michael Armstrong and Reece Byrnes for the council elections in September.
Richmond MP Justine Elliot said she invited the former prime minister to launch the candidates' campaigns. She also supported Kevin Rudd in his challenge to Prime Minister Julia Gillard in February.
"I'm so pleased that Kevin Rudd has accepted my invitation to come here and launch this campaign. We've got a strong local team headed up by Michael Armstrong and Reece Byrnes," Mrs Elliot said in a written statement.
"Our Labor candidates are locals who understand us and know what needs to be done to fix the Tweed Shire. They will get back to basics and deliver for the Tweed.
"This team is committed to keeping the local economy strong and providing better community services."
People are invited to meet the Tweed council candidates and Mr Rudd at the Salvation Army Centre in Banora Point at 10.30am on Thursday, April 19.
