Roy is ready to Show and Shine
IT'S a busy time of year for Roy Short, of West Ballina - there's lots of cleaning to be done.
Mr Short is a member of North Coast Street Machines, and he is currently preparing two vehicles to display at the 23rd annual Show and Shine to be held at Kingsford Smith Park, Bentinck St, Ballina, on January 13.
Mr Short said he had been tinkering with cars for as long as he could remember and was self-taught in the garage.
He is from Inverell originally and said "as a bushie, it's just something you do".
And he said his interest also came about because he was "born in the era of FJs (Holdens)".
He will show a 1928 O Model pick-up ute hot rod at the Show and Shine, and a GTR XU-1 1971 LC Torana.
While Mr Short sports a Peter Brock singlet when showing off his cars, he said he crosses the Holden-Ford boundaries in his love of cars.
And it's a love shared by his family, with his wife and son also passionate about cars.
More than 200 vehicles are expected to be on show at the Show and Shine, and there will be entertainment and activities for the children too.
This year, the event is raising money for Summerland LADS, which aims to provide a driver education facility on the North Coast. Entry is $5 for adults or $12 for a family, and gates open to the public at 9am.
