FOUNDER of Rolling Stone Australia Phillip Frazer is gracing the Tweed with his presence tonight.

Since December, the exhibition a Rolling Stone: The Covers 1972-2000 has been on display at the Tweed River Art Gallery, but the official opening is tonight.

A total of 150 of the publication's best covers from more than four decades are on display and will remain at the gallery until April.

Art gallery director Susi Muddiman said it was looking to be a fun event.

"People are really enthusiastic about it," he said.

"It is looking like it's going to be a big night."

Miss Muddiman said Frazer would give a speech on the night which she believed would be "colourful."

Frazer launched the Australian edition of the magazine in 1972 and now lives in Northern New South Wales.

To be part of the opening head to the gallery at 6pm.
