Roadside pickup targets flood affected areas
SOME areas around the Tweed will not receive free kerbside rubbish pickups to deal with the flood aftermath.
A Tweed Shire Council spokesperson confirmed that the only areas that will get free kerbside pickups will be Tumbulgum, Condong, Chinderah and South Murwillumbah.
These areas are classified as severely flood affected, which is why they are receiving the service.
"The pickup will occur only in areas where houses were flooded," the spokesperson said.
Residents of the selected areas will be able to place flood debris, green waste and damaged household goods out for pickup on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
The regular household goods kerbside pickup is scheduled for April.
However, all Tweed residents will be able to drop green waste off for free at Stotts Creek tip until February 10.
The tip is currently cut off due to flood waters, which council hopes will recede in the coming days.
