TUGUN residents enjoying a walk or bike ride in the park located between Stewart Rd and Taperell Dr, Tugun, report the presence of a rather entertaining sign.

Gold Coast City Council placed two large signs at a path leading towards the lowest area of the park warning people not to engage in boating or swimming activities.

On close inspection, the 'body' of water where boating and swimming are not allowed turns out to be a number of shallow ponds nearly entirely overgrown by weeds and grasses.

Local resident Hugh Dearnley said when he saw the sign he could hardly believe the warnings concerned the tiny pools.

"It would be very difficult to launch a boat in the pond and the water is not deep enough to even consider going for a swim.

"It's rather funny to see these big signs at this location as both boating and swimming seem out of the question anyway," Mr Dearnley said.

The Gold Coast City Council was unavailable for comment.
