LOOKING after Tweed Coast estuaries was the hot topic at a community meeting held at Kingscliff on Tuesday.

Residents met with Tweed Council staff and environmental scientist Katie Pratt to discuss the council's Coastal Zone management Plan, a 10-year strategy addressing identified pressures on estuary health by implementation integrated, balanced and responsible strategies.

"It's important for residents to have their say on issues like these," said secretary of the Kingscliff Ratepayers and Progress Association Julie Murray.

"We are grateful to the council for giving us this opportunity to be part of the decision-making process."

Tweed Shire Council's waterways program leader Tom Alleston said he was keen to hear feedback from the community.

"We are also looking for submissions on the plan from members of the community," he said.

"Environmental scientist Katie Pratt said the vision for healthy estuaries should be carried into the future.

Actions have been proposed to restore and maintain the ecological sustainability of the estuaries, as well as associated recreational and commercial activities.

The plan is supported by scientific knowledge gathered during ecological health assessments of the estuaries and their connected freshwater creeks.

Research has provided valuable information on the health of these systems and the key factors affecting their ecological and recreational values.

The plan proposes actions to sustain environmental and recreational values in all parts of these waterways.

Provide your feedback by sending a written submission to the council at tsc@tweed.nsw.gov.au or mail to the General Manager, Tweed Shire Council, PO Box 816, Murwillumbah 2484
