Resident says ants are a sure sign floods are on the way
IT'S no joke when you wake up to find your home surrounded by flood water.
With the threat of taipan and king brown snakes as you wade through the deluge, all you can do is laugh.
"What else can you do in such a situation," Kevin Martin, of Cudgen, said.
Mr Martin and Rose Martin live on the flat next to Tweed Coast Road and their home was inundated by yesterday's flood waters.
"This is the worst flooding we have witnessed," Mr Martin said.
"We've been here since 1988.
"The water came up so quickly.
"It was quite alarming.
"The house next door got hit worse.
"It's the old Tweed railway station house.
"We just had our house painted before the flood."
Mr Martin said he blames the flood on global warming.
"Anyone who doesn't believe in global warming is kidding themselves," he said.
Mrs Martin has an aching back from moving furniture on the ground floor.
"We're still clearing up," she said.
"But I've got a feeling there's more to come."
Mr Martin said the farmers got a sign before the flood.
"Thousands of ants swarmed through the area before the weekend," he said.
"That's a sure sign of a flood coming."
