Rescued woman abuses her rescuers

A WOMAN who was rescued by Ballina Jet Boat Surf Rescue after she was swept out to sea off Lighthouse Beach late yesterday abused her rescuers, police and paramedics when she was brought to shore.

About 5.30pm two surfers went to the aid of a 48-year-old woman who was swept out to sea by a rip.

When police arrived at the beach they saw the woman and two surfers approximately 700 metres from the north wall out to sea.

The jet boat was dispatched to Lighthouse Beach to assist and after considerable resistance from the swimmer, lifesavers managed to get all three people into the boat and back to shore.

Once the woman was on the beach police said she became uncooperative and abusive towards her rescuers, police and ambulance officers.

Officers said the woman was swearing and saying that she "was just going for a swim".

Police believe the woman was affected by alcohol.
