THE clean-up may have already started but the recovery process will officially start today with the opening of a temporary "information point" in Grafton.

Mayor Richie Williamson said the one-stop shop for all flood-related assistance information would operate until Monday at the council chambers with the aim of directing people to the right departments or organisations for their needs.

"We haven't got our plan together but we will be offering some kind of service for flood-spoilt effects," he said.

In the longer term, a flood recovery centre will be set up in a shop front. "I am acutely aware of the recovery operations that will be needed in Maclean and on the lower Clarence and we will also be exploring the option of an access point in Maclean for people to get information about services available to them," Cr Williamson said.

He said the council was providing lime to residents at Ulmarra who had issues with septic tanks.

"That's available from Small Park," he said. "We will also look at other areas like Brushgrove, Cowper and Brushgrove Island as the waters recede.

"I have also asked the council at the February meeting to look at some form of water rebate for people who have been inundated."

Phone the information centre on 6643 0222.
