QUEENSLAND police pulled out all the stops this afternoon to arrest a high-risk offender who escaped after being pulled over for a traffic offence.

Queensland Police Sergeant Steve Quinn said Queensland police stopped the motorist for a traffic offence on the Pacific Hwy this afternoon.

A police check revealed the driver was wanted on other matters.

Before police could make an arrest he escaped on foot in the direction of Currumbin.

Sergeant Quinn said because of the high-risk status of the offender a helicopter was asked to help in the search.

Police searched the area with assistance from the helicopter and a number of patrol cars but at the time of publication, the offender remained out of reach of the authorities.
