Qantas jobs back as upgrade announced

QANTAS boss Alan Joyce has released plans to spend $30 million on upgrading the airline's heavy maintenance facilities in Brisbane.

The Qantas investment is expected to create hundreds of jobs, including 30 apprenticeships.

It follows word of a $70 million catering facility to be developed at Brisbane Airport, and its resumption of direct flights from Sydney to the Gold Coast.

"The LNP Government is encouraging more airlines to introduce direct flights into key Queensland markets through our Attracting Aviation Fund," Premier Campbell Newman said.

"Since March 2012, Scoot Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Etihad Airways and Qantas have announced new flights into our state."
