POWER has been restored to customers throughout the North Coast this afternoon with more than 350 crew members working tirelessly to repair the extensive damage the network sustained as a result of ex-tropical Cyclone Oswald.
As of this morning 100 customers remained without power in the Murwillumbah, Skinners Shoot, Federal, Goonengerry, Wilsons Creek, Boat Harbour and Coorabell areas.
Essential Energy's acting regional general manager North Coast, Daniel Bylsma said crews had worked through challenging circumstances, fixing 5,000 faults on the network to get the power restored.
"It has been a mammoth effort to get our 23,000 customers back on with crews working through challenging weather and overcoming a number of access issues to restore supply," he said.
"Gaining access was our biggest problem, with flooded creeks and rivers cutting off some areas, and fallen vegetation making it almost impossible to reach the network in some places.
"We utilised crews from across Essential Energy's footprint, called in vegetation crews to assist and even hit the skies to patrol powerlines with helicopters ensuring that all faults had been repaired.
"Customers will see crews out and about over the coming days as we still have some mopping up to do.
"I would like to thank customers for their patience and understanding as we worked to restore supply and remind customers to call us on 13 20 80 to report any network damage."
