A QUEENSLAND man, 28, was taken to Byron District Hospital after the car he was driving smashed into a power pole on Broken Head Rd, Suffolk Park, early yesterday morning.

The impact, shortly before 4am, snapped the pole and left power wires dangling. The area around the crash scene was blacked out with Essential Energy crews called out to repair the damage.

Police were later called to the hospital where the driver was allegedly causing a disturbance.

A spokesman said mandatory blood and urine samples were taken from the man and charges were pending.
