A BANORA Point man is fuming after his car tyres were destroyed when he ran over potholes close to the Banora Point Upgrade last month.

Jamie Bartley was travelling from Banora Point when he hit the potholes under the Pacific Hwy fly-over.

The impact destroyed two tyres that had only been put on the family car three weeks ago.

"They (potholes) were right in the shade of the fly over and you couldn't see them until you were right on top of them," Mr Bartley said.

"They were about a metre across and a foot deep."

Mr Bartley said he used to be a tow truck driver and potholes were a big problem across the Tweed.

"It's just getting worse and worse," he said.

"I wouldn't be surprised if more people suffered tyre damage because of the condition of the roads."

Mr Bartley said when he hit the potholes it ripped the steering out of his hands and the car veered across the double white lines narrowly missing oncoming vehicles.

"I have called the council about it, and the potholes have been patched up," he said.

Tweed Shire Council was unavailable for comment on the potholes.
