Police warn of car break-ins

TWEED Heads detectives are investigating the break-in of cars at Letitia Spit in Fingal on Sunday.

The offender/s smashed windows sometime between 9am and 12pm to gain entry into the vehicles and stole items.

According to police, the property stolen from the cars included camera's electrical equipment and personal items.

Detective Acting Inspector Saul Wiseman said detectives were conducting an operation to find the offender/s.

"It (car thefts) goes against the trends we have seen," Det Acting Insp Wiseman said.

He said according to statistics crime in the Tweed was down across the board, including theft from motor vehicles.

With summer just around the corner, thieves frequently target parking areas around beaches and rivers looking for valuables left in cars.

Police are urging people not to leave any articles of values in cars.

Anyone with information about these offences at Letitia Spit should contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
