Police unearth dangerous weapons

TWEED Police confiscated three prohibited weapons in two separate incidents on the weekend.

Authorities found two prohibited firearms when called to investigate a reported assault at a Banora Point home on Sunday.

A 56-year-old man was arrested at the address for the assault and further investigation led to the discovery of illegal firearms.

The man was charged with assault and firearms offences.

In a separate incident police stopped a speeding car on the Pacific Hwy at Cudgera Creek just after midnight on Monday morning.

While searching the car police uncovered drugs and a tomahawk.

A 36-year-old Banora Point man was arrested and charged.

He will appear before Tweed Heads local court on September 3.
