Police to target speeding motorists

NORTHERN region traffic police warn drivers they will be targeting speeding vehicles over the long weekend.

Operation 'Slow Down' will focus on the Pacific Hwy and a number of arterial roads in the Northern Rivers, including the Bruxner Hwy and Summerland Wy.

Local patrols will be reinforced by additional resources from Sydney.

Senor Sergeant Bill Darnell said drivers should stay patient during any holiday traffic delays.

"There's a substantial increase in traffic flow and delays in travel time to and from them," Sgt Darnell said.

"Know that we will be out and about in full strength.

"We have a critical period rostering approach with restricted annual leave and rest days."

"We'll be about high visibility but we'll be out and about on all the main arterial roads for a 24 hour period right through the four days of the long weekend," Sgt Darnell said.
