TWEED-Byron Police will be out in force today as a result of the NSW crackdown Operation Compliance One.

Police will focus on drivers using hand held mobile phones, not taking notice of school crossings and speeding in school zones.

Tweed Highway Patrol Sergeant Chad George said motorists should be aware of their actions behind the wheel.

"It's mainly about education and reminding drivers about their personal responsibilities," he said.

Sgt George said people needed to be especially cautious around school zones and make sure they obey the posted speed limit.

"We all need to take care of our kids. People should ensure they comply with road rules, especially in school zones," he said.

Sgt George said too many drivers were talking on hand held mobile phones instead of concentrating on the road and they would also be targeted in the operation.
