Police sergeant to face court over firearm offences
A NORTHERN Region police officer will face court next year charged with misconduct and firearm offences.
A 48-year-old sergeant was served a future court attendance notice today. Police media refused to disclose the specific station where the officer currently works.
He will face charges of misconduct in public office, aid and abet, possess unauthorised pistol and allow unauthorised person to possess pistol.
The officer is due to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on January 14.
Police will allege the incident occurred while the officer was on duty in 2011.
A police statement said the notice was served at the culmination of an investigation by the Professional Standards Command.
A police media spokesperson would not confirm which police command the officer hails from.
