Polglase stands ready to serve
VETERAN Tweed Shire Councillor and former mayor Warren Polglase will stand for re-election next month on a platform of minimal rate rises and a sustainable economy.
Announcing his ticket of conservative candidates, Councillor Polglase said the 2012 poll was "the the most important council election I can remember".
"It is not a choice between pro and anti development, it is a choice between Tweed jobs and Tweed stagnation," Cr Polglase said.
"Only a team of committed and competent conservative local independents like mine can guarantee a sustainable future for the Tweed.
"We have the skills and experience to manage Council efficiently so we can keep a lid on rate rises at a time when locals are struggling with cost of living pressures."
The other canidates on the ticket are Burringbar community leader Stuart Cahill, Murwillumbah small business owner Bill Larkin and Banora Point mother and office manager Karen Embrey.
Cr Polglase said he was concerned about the possibility of a council dominated by Green and Labor candidates, saying such an election result could be "even worse than what we've got in Canberra".
"The problem with political party endorsed candidates is that their first master once elected is party headquarters in Sydney rather than Tweed residents," he said.
