Geoff has plenty of time to retire
SUPER A-mart Tweed Heads furniture salesman Geoff Williams celebrated his 74th birthday last Thursday, and although Mr Williams has been eligible for retirement for some time, he resolutely refuses to take the opportunity to put his feet up.
Mr Williams has worked for the company for 33 years of which 22 have been at the Greenway Dr store.
He was involved with the store from the start and was consulted on the design and construction of the branch.
When Mr Williams started his furniture selling career, the company was named BW Coles and was located at Bundall.
He came to the Gold Coast in 1979 for a holiday from his home in Warragul, Victoria, and loved the area so much he decided to move with his wife and three kids.
Mr Williams said he worked as a manager from the start of his employment and only gave the position away when he turned 66, after 25 years in charge because he wanted to give the younger members a chance.
He said he liked to offer good service which, together with the store's wide range and value for money, accounted for good results.
Mr Williams' colleague Martin Dixon said he showed boundless energy which put some of his much younger colleagues to shame.
Although Geoff wasn't the slightest bit interested in retirement, he did buy a home in Bali where he plans to live.
However, moving to Indonesia was still in the distant future and he was looking forward to working for at least another five years.
"I've had a good life and as long as I stay healthy I just want to continue working and watch my grandchildren grow up."
