A GROUP of artists are looking to the community for help to breathe life into Murwillumbah's central business district.

Hey Maker! has spent more than three months attempting to beautify Murwillumbah CBD by placing temporary galleries in empty shops, known as pop-up shops.

Member Ellie Beck said the group was trying to raise funds for a workshop to plan the first "pop-up shop."

"We have had some resistance from landlords but businesses were supportive," Ms Beck said.

Tweed Valley artists and creatives Belinda Smith,, Ms Beck, Jo Olive, Kathy Egan and Christy McLeod are the founding members of Hey Maker!

"With three successful Hey Maker! events in the bag it has become very obvious to us that there is a real need for people of all ages to come together, connect with their community and feel like they are participating in something meaningful." Ms Egan said.

The group's next goal was to raise $11,700 in 30 days starting on June 22.

Hey Maker! is asking the community to pledge to it's campaign on the successful Australian crowd funding website Pozible.

The funds would be used for the first art installation.

"We want to help renew Murwillumbah and draw visitors into our town centre," Ms Olive said.

"This is an opportunity to connect the arts sector with the business sector, the maker with the public and our regional town with the broader arts industry in the Northern Rivers and beyond."
