PEARL Grantham must have come from good stock.

The 100-year-old Livingstone House resident has nine children, all of whom attended her birthday celebrations.

She also has 54 grandchildren and, in five generations, 154 descendants. About 80 of them attended her birthday celebrations.

Mrs Grantham was born in Tamworth on March 24, 1912, the same day as the Titanic went down and, apart from some hearing loss, is still in good health.

According to her second child, June Baker, Mrs Grantham still reads without glasses.

She said that when she was 16 she met Thomas, a 19-year-old milk-delivery driver in Sydney.

"He used to find excuses to deliver more milk," she said.

They were married 74 years.

Pearl, apparently, was not one to sit idly.

She was a member of the Country Women's Association, the Far West Children's Homes, the United Hospitals Auxiliary, the View Club and the Clarence Pastoral and Agricultural Society (Grafton Show society).

"There's a lot to be said for keeping active," Mrs Baker said.
