NANA Ohnesorge and her work title Dreaming Ned has taken out the Packers' Prize for the 2012 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award (JADA).

The team of staff and volunteers who voted for the Packers' Prize hang about 60 exhibitions a year at the Grafton Regional Gallery and know a good work of art when they see it.

Dreaming Ned explores the idea of iconic portraits and by using old media images of Ned Kelly it plays with ideas of public fascination and myth.

Although the Packers' Prize doesn't carry any prize money, it is a great honour for the winning artist and maybe even an indicator of the overall winner.

The packers selected their choice while hanging the 51 finalists of the 2012 JADA.

The official announcement of the winner of the $15,000 prize and $15,000 of acquisitions will be made at the gala opening on Friday October 26 at the gallery by the judge of the 2012 JADA Dr Campbell Gray, Director of The University of Queensland Art Museum.

The gallery still has a few tickets available for the glittering awards night. Visit www.graftongallery.nsw.gov.au for ticketing information or call 6642 3177.

Members of the public will have a chance to vote for their favourite drawing in the Peoples' Choice Award operating throughout the exhibition.

The winner of the Peoples' Choice will be drawn from people voting for the most popular drawing and will receive a lunch voucher from the Gallery Cafe.

JADA will be on exhibition at the gallery from October 26 to December 2.

The Grafton Regional Gallery is located at 158 Fitzroy Street and is open from 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Sunday.
