RAIN was no obstacle for Kingscliff Triathlon competitors last weekend as they soldiered on.

With almost 1000 competitors taking part, the triathlon was dubbed a success.

The highlight of the day was the guest appearance of Olympic silver medallist Michellie Jones who joined in on the action and competed in the sprint distance.

QSM sports even manager Sebastien Krantz said the weather was the main concern at first, but conditions cleared later in the day.

"Initially it was a bit overcast, then the rain stopped and the blue sky came out," Mr Krantz said.

"It wasn't too hot or too sunny, it was perfect weather for a triathlon.

"It was great seeing the smiles on everyone's faces.

"Everyone loved the social and competitive aspect of the triathlon.

"The swim was harder this year due to the current."

Brian Fuller from Tugun came first in the men's Olympic open category followed by Alex Rigby from Carrara and Michael Glover from Mooloolaba.

Margo Mackintosh from Chapel Hill came first in the women's Olympic open category followed by Michelle Barns from Graceville and Liz Fancutt from Sanctuary Cove.
