No bail for man after car chase

A SHORT high-speed chase through Kingscliff resulted in multiple charges against a 28-year-old Queensland man early Wednesday morning.

Tweed Heads Highway Patrol officers detected the man speeding on the Pacific Hwy near the Kingscliff exit before 1am.

When police engaged their lights and sirens the vehicle attempted to speed away.

The man dumped the car after a pursuit near Fingal Head and Kingscliff and was caught after a short chase on foot.

Police discovered the vehicle he was driving was stolen from Benowa on June 12 and it displayed number plates also stolen from another car.

He was charged at Tweed Heads Police Station with police pursuit, driving in a dangerous manner, possession of stolen property from outside the state and possession of a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and attended Tweed Heads Court on Wednesday.

Combined Tweed Neighbourhood Watch secretary Gordon Levenson said on the Tweed Byron Local Area Command's Facebook page that some drivers saw the section of highway between Kingscliff and the Tweed River as a racetrack.

"You see people everyday exceeding the speed limit," Mr Levenson said.
