A ROBBER got more than he bargained for when he broke into a Currumbin house yesterday.

Coolangatta police Senior Constable Phil Buckley said neighbours spotted the 38-year-old man climbing in a window of a house at 11am.

"They've then called the owners to find out who he was," he said.

The owners and neighbours eventually went to the house and chased the crook from Western Australia on foot.

They caught the man who had stolen jewellery and clothes from the Mackenzie Rd house before calling police.

Snr Con Buckley said he was impressed by the team work to catch the thief.

"It was very good work by the public," he said.

"It serves as a timely reminder for neighbours to keep a look out and for owners to keep their property secure."

The robber is known to Western Australian police.
