TEMPERATURES across the Tweed were soaring yesterday with the second highest December temperature recorded at Murwillumbah.

Thermometers at Murwillumbah yesterday's pushed passed 35 degrees but it was still not the month's highest temperature.

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded the highest temperature for the year on December 4 when the gauge broke through 38 degrees.

Tweed Heads reached 30 degrees yesterday but it was not the spike in temperature that residents experienced in the hinterland.

According to the bureau, temperatures in the Tweed were expected to stay in the high 20s for the rest of the week but with unstable conditions bringing storms and showers.
