IT was yet another bash-a-thon between two classy Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League rivals at Grafton's McGuren Oval on Sunday where Murwillumbah Mustangs inflicted a 20-14 win over Grafton Ghosts in front of a large of vociferous crowd.

The victory somewhat eased the still lingering pain of being beaten 10-6 by the Ghosts in last year's grand final.

Outstanding for the Mustangs were three players who backed up from the previous day's representative match in Cessnock where Sam Panting, Luke Covell and Damien Quinn pulled on Northern Rivers jerseys against Canberra in a Country Rugby League Maher Cup fixture.

Unfortunately the Mustangs' other rep player Lynden Murphy pulled out of the Mustangs line-up when he awoke on Sunday morning with a recurring stiff back.

Also withdrawing was bench player Chris Patinson who succumbed to a shoulder injury.

Lionel Foster replaced Murphy at prop and new recruit giant Sam Ross went onto the bench from where he made a good contribution to the win.

The game was a rugged affair from go to whoa - typical of meetings between these arch-rivals.

In other NRRRL results Evans Heads beat Mullumbimby 36-16, Byron Bay tossed Lower Clarence 40-26, Northern United defeated Kyogle 38-16 and Ballina blitzed Casino 48-18.
