MURWILLUMBAH businesses have already reported over $200,000 in losses to the town's business chamber this morning.

Loss of customers due to floods and road closures cost some businesses over $16,500 in lost trade, while power outages and water inundation meant up to $6000 in stock had to be thrown away by others.

Up to 75% of staff was unable to come to work in some cases and those who worked from home reported difficulties due to power, landline and mobile phone outages.

Building damage has also hit some businesses hard, with extensive damage to ceilings and equipment.

Many businesses also reported blinds and awnings being severely damaged by strong winds and debris.

One example was the Bio Organic Farm on Kyogle Rd, Uki, which had the walls and roof torn from its green houses and its produce severely damaged.

Murwillumbah Business Chamber president Toni Zuschke said businesses should report damages and losses to the chamber.

"The Murwillumbah chamber is working with the Tweed Shire Council to provide accurate flood impact statements to ensure that our businesses get the most out of the recently announced national disaster assistance," she said.

Affected Murwillumbah businesses should email the chamber at natascha@murwillumbahchamber.com.au with a short outline of losses and damages.
