ANOTHER move is being made for a proposed motorcycle track at Murwillumbah with Tweed Shire Council considering a lease.

The council is considering a lease of the Murwillumbah landfill site at Lundberg Dr, South Murwillumbah for a period of five years.

Officers have recommended that the council approve of the lease for $250 a year that increased with the CPI each year.

"The valuer has determined that the site, being a landfill site is contaminated and would attract limited uses and has applied a 'rate of return' against the value of the land, as well as referring to other motor cross sites which are generally operating from council land," the report stated.

The development proponent, Tweed Valley Junior Motorcycle Club, still needs to lodge a development application with the council for public consultation and to secure funding for the project.

Former councillor Kevin Skinner requested the report on the track at last April's council meeting.

Mr Skinner was a strong support of a motorcycle track in the Tweed but, while several sites were proposed, none were suitable.

This latest push has the support of the Gold Coast Motocross Club who would contribute about $400,000 to find a new home after the Gold Coast City Council has threatened to close the club's Reedy Creek track.
