POLICE say they fear for the safety of a man who disappeared during last month's flood.

Charl Viviers, 29, has not been seen since his Queensland-registered Ford Falcon was spotted abandoned on a flooded causeway at Byrangery Creel at Repentance Creek.

Tweed-Byron police have reported on their Facebook page Mr Vivier's car was spotted on Thursday, January 31, at the height of the floods.

The car was unlocked and the interior was wet, leaving police to assume it had been flooded.

Investigators have been searching for Mr Viviers since his car was found without success. They suspect he may have tried to cross the flooded causeway on foot when the car stalled.

Compounding the fears, police said Mr Viviers required regular medication and many of his belongings had been abandoned along with the car.

Mr Viviers was described as being of Caucasian appearance with a fair complexion and slim build, short dark hair and a beard.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Byron Bay Police on 02 6685 9499 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 immediately.
