Mason returns as Knights win

THE Newcastle Knights celebrated Willie Mason's return in fine style last night with a 34-14 thumping of the Penrith Panthers at Hunter Stadium.

Mason started on the bench but got some good game time as the Knights never looked like losing control after scoring the first try on seven minutes.

That went to winger James McManus, who was also involved in the Knights' second score when his burst led to Jarrod Mullen touching down under the posts.

Michael Jennings pulled a try back but Zeb Taia stretched the lead and second-half tries from Timana Tahu, Kurt Gidley and Neville Costigan put the game out of Penrith's reach.

Clint Newton scored a second-half try double for the visitors but they were merely consolation
