WHILE former NRL footballer Craig Field remains behind bars for his part in the alleged murder of Cudgera Creek farmer Kelvin Kane at Kingscliff, his co-accused is out on bail.
Former Grafton Rhino's rugby league coach Shaun Fathers was released on conditional bail at Lismore Local Court on July 24.
This was the day before hundreds of mourners packed a Murwillumbah church to farewell the popular horseman and cattle farmer.
Fathers, 41, and Field, 39, are due to face Lismore Local Court on August 21.
Fathers is expected to appear in person, while Field, who is currently on remand in Grafton jail, is scheduled to appear via video link.
Mr Kane died on July 16 after suffering massive head injuries from an alleged fatal punch outside the Kingscliff Beach Hotel the previous night.
Meanwhile, despite reports by the Daily Telegraph and the Sun Herald that former NRL footballer Craig Field was due to appear in Lismore Local Court today over the alleged murder, he did not appear.
Lismore Local court staff confirmed Field will next appear via video link on August 21.
