Man nabbed after hold-up attempt

A MAN will appear in court tomorrow after an attempted armed hold-up at a Tweed Heads South McDonald's store on Sunday.

According to police reports, a 22-year-old Tweed Heads man, armed with an iron bar, walked to the drive-through serving window and demanded money from the attendant.

He left along Minjungbal Dr after staff refused his demands.

Tweed police Acting Inspector Jason Dowds said a highway patrol car was in the area when staff called police.

"The highway patrol car was driving past when they got the call," Act Insp Dowds said.

"They were in the right place at the right time."

Police arrested the man and searched him, finding a knife.

He appeared briefly in Tweed Heads Local Court on Sunday where he was refused bail.

He will reappear in court tomorrow on charges of armed with intent to commit robbery, demand money with menace, and custody of a knife in a public place.
