Man drowns on Xmas morning
A 64-year-old man, believed to be from Lennox Head, drowned at a Ballina beach this morning.
The man was surfing at Shelly Beach with a family member and a few friends at around 6.30am.
A short time later, they realized the man was unconscious in the water, Inspector Bill McKenna of Richmond Local Area Command said.
They pulled the man to shore, performed CPR and called an ambulance.
They were unable to revive him and he was taken to Ballina District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
