Man drowns near Ballina

A MAN has drowned at Ballina's Flat Rock beach this afternoon.

Paramedics were called to the scene just after noon following reports a man's body had washed up on the beach.

When they arrived a short time later bystanders had commenced CPR on the man while being given directions from an operator at the Northern Rivers Ambulance Control Centre via mobile phone.

Paramedics took over CPR but were unsuccessful in reviving the 75-year-old Alstonville man.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Ballina hospital.
