Man, 73, dies while water skiing at Tumbulgum

AN ELDERLY man suffered a heart attack and died while water skiing at Tumbulgum.

About 10am on Wednesday the 73-year-old man was being towed by the boat in the Tweed River when family members saw him collapse into the water.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Sergeant Doug Conners said the boat went in a semi-circle direction about 20 to 30 meters away from the shore when the man collapsed.

"He was retrieved by family members," he said.

"CPR was performed by relatives while they waited for emergency services to arrive."

He was conveyed to Tweed Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead.

Sgt Conner said a doctor issued a certificate saying the man died of a heart attack.
