Mahalia, Prinnie headed for Twinnies
FANS of the smash hit TV show The Voice will be excited to hear soul sisters Mahalia Barnes and Prinnie Stevens are coming to Tweed Heads.
Their new duet album Come Together hit stores on October 5.
Stevens said the whole experience was mind blowing and a great learning experience.
"It took four to five days to record the album," she said.
"We did it live all in one massive room. Mahalia and I were even sharing one microphone at one point."
Stevens said she was convinced by her long-time friend Barnes to record their entire album live so listeners could get a feel for what they were all about.
"Mahalia really pushed me and said let's do this live," she said.
"It was so exciting and I loved the experience.
"It felt like we were on stage singing to an audience."
The day of the girl's album launch Stevens said she did not really know what to do with herself.
"It was kind of strange," she said.
"There was such a big build up to this one date and when it sort of came I was kind of like is this it?
"Should I just sit here and look at iTunes all day?"
Instead she decided to go into the studio with one of Justin Timberlake's writers and get back to work.
"The album has such a different, authentic, real, and raw feel," she said.
"There is a real mix of songs."
Stevens is no stranger to Tweed Heads.
The singing sensation said she had been a back-up vocalist with artists such as Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy on past tours.
"But this is for our own show," she said.
"I'm so, so excited about coming back.
"It's really important for artists to get out to the smaller places and in a place like Tweed Heads people appreciate when you do come."
On stage with the singers will be an 11-piece band with a horn section as well as two back up vocalists.
Stevens said we can expect a Tina Turner mixed with Beyonce and James Brown feel.
