ARTISTIC director of Double Mask Theatre Company Lachlan Glasby believes that theatre should be magical.

"Double Mask exists for those people who believe in magic, those who want to experience magic and those who want to create magic," Glasby said.

"A good story, whether it be a play, or a novel, is like a good magic trick, something we always keep in mind."

And this year's production of Don Quixote will be no different.

Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote is considered to be the most influential works of literature from the Spanish Golden age, and 16 year old student, Jordan Fletcher, has put his own funny spin on this classic work.

"There is this plot line in the novel about the oppression of the Spanish people and the poverty that surrounds them, and I think Jacob has really taken this and done it justice, while keeping a very funny script," Glasby said of his talented student.

"Who said that a funny play can't have tender moments?"

Every year Double Mask puts on a classical play, with last year being the successful production of Jekyll and Hyde.

Jacob was eager to take on the task of adapting Don Quixote, and overall the production took 30 weeks to put together.

Don Quixote runs on December 7th and 8th at 7:30pm at the Murwillumbah City Centre. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
