Madrid's Ronaldo scores equaliser in Man Utd showdown
MANCHESTER United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was in a generous mood after watching his team draw 1-1 against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 in Spain today.
In a game watched by an estimated 200 million worldwide, Danny Welbeck headed the Red Devils into a 20th-minute lead before former United star Cristiano Ronaldo came back to haunt his former club when he headed an equaliser 10 minutes later.
The result means it is all to play for in the second leg at Old Trafford on March 5, but Ferguson believes it is advantage United.
"Now we've got a great chance," he said.
"The players battled hard and it's a good result for us. We still have a big job on our hands, but it is definitely within our grasp.
Ferguson also praised Ronaldo, who was reluctant to celebrate scoring against his old club.
"What a header. Unbelievable, you can't stop that. The spring, the way he holds himself in the air, the power in the header," he said.
Borussia Dortmund drew 2-2 at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukraine in the other tie of the night.
