Lucky day for Irene after winning home paint job
IF GOOD things come to those who wait it is no wonder Irene Crispin won a competition to have her house painted.
After all she is 99 years old and has lived in her Grafton home for 75 years.
"I'm still pinching myself; I just can't believe it," Ms Crispin said.
The competition was run by Meals on Wheels and the Commonwealth Bank and asked people over 75 to nominate what "whish", up to the value of $5000, they would like to come true.
Ms Crispin put her hand up for a fresh coat of paint for the house.
Her husband built the house in the 1930s, doing bits and pieces after work each day.
"In 1937 we moved in; it cost us about the equivalent of $1200," she said. "Apart from some fragility Ms Crispin is in top health.
"I might have weak legs but I don't have a weak brain," she said.
Her good health is a result of growing up on a farm and eating fresh vegetables free from pesticides she said.
Ms Crispin has two children, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and is expecting her third great-great-grandchild in December.
