Lismore, Kyogle victory in win-win basketball carnival

LISMORE and Kyogle high schools may have taken the honours but everyone was a winner at a memorable basketball carnival.

Teams from areas including Casino, Richmond River and Woodenbong took part in Monday's regional leg of the NWS CHS Basketball tournament.

Lismore High School took the girls event, which was held at the Lismore Basketball Association's Keen Street complex.

Kyogle High School was victorious in the boys' tournament.

Squads comprising the tournament's best players will now head to Byron Bay next month to take on teams from across the FNC.

Good performances at that event will take the students one step closer to participating in the state event, featuring teams from across NSW.

Girls convenor Sonya Laverty said she was overjoyed with the success of the contest, which saw hard-fought action in the boys and girls divisions.

"It was fabulous," she said.

"I believe the kids were winners to be part of this.

"They were laughing and smiling on the court, which was great to see.

"Everything went smoothly and we are delighted with how it went."
