Lions help chopper roar
COMMUNITY support is helping to provide the wind beneath the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter's rotors.
The Murwillumbah Lions Club and The Mt Warning Wanderers social bowlers combined for an evening of fundraising bowls last week.
Lion Bob Watson said the event raised more than $1000 for the vital air-ambulance service.
"To keep this vital community service flying takes an annual budget of $6.5 million, of which 60% comes from corporate, business, service organisations and community donations," Mr Watson said.
"The service averages six to seven missions per week."
He said the local Lions have long been financial supporters of the rescue chopper and were pleased when the Wanderers "came on board to organise the evening of bowls".
"A long serving member of the Lions Club, Lawrence Anderson, had reason to be grateful for the Rescue service.
"In 2011 while on a fishing excursion in the New England area he suffered a fall and was conveyed to Tamworth Hospital by the Westpac Helicopter.
"It was therefore appropriate that he should present a cheque to the helicopter service representative, crew member Tom Lee-Lewes, during his visit to the club."
