Langbroek 'not aware' of other MPs against fluoride

EDUCATION Minister and former dentist John-Paul Langbroek says he is not aware of any other Queensland MPs poised to voice their concern over the fluoride debate.

His dismissal follows reports Nudgee MP Jason Woodforth is leading the charge to have fluoride taken out of Queensland drinking water.

Mr Woodforth claimed 31 MPs would back him up.

Mr Langbroek, a dentist pre-political life, confirmed to reporters on Monday he did not know of any other MPs who shared Mr Woodforth's views.

He simply said he had spoken to Mr Woodforth over the weekend.

"We spoke about the issue in Parliament in the last sitting week and he has already asked to come and see me about a school nutrition matter," he said.

"So we have had a couple of discussions over dinner and over texts over the weekend."

Water Minister Mark McArdle introduced the South East Queensland Water (Restructuring) Amendment Bill in Parliament recently.

The amendment hands local government the power to decide whether to add fluoride to town water supplies.

Councils will also wear the costs of deciding to add or withhold fluoride from water supplies.
