Kyogle ready for main street upgrade
The Kyogle main street redevelopment was officially opened today with the attendance of Page MP Janelle Saffin and Richmond MP Justine Elliot as Parliamentary Secretary representing Simon Crean Minister for Regional Australia.
The redevelopment project received $1.2 million through the Australian Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program which includes new footpaths, kerbs, guttering and better stormwater drainage, new outdoor seating and signage.
There will also be works on new disabled parking bays and improvements to loading bays.
Ms Saffin said broad community consultation helped to make the redevelopment a success.
"The Summerland Way upgrade has created a positive first impression of the Kyogle town centre," she said.
"The redevelopment has also encouraged the business community to hold regular farmers markets, bazaars, craft markets and street stalls, adding to the vibrancy of Kyogle."
Ms Elliot said that the upgrade adds to the liveability of the Kyogle region and supported two council jobs along the way.
"A strong local economy is built on a regular flow of customers so this major upgrade means that residents, visitors and tourists will be able to enjoy everything that Kyogle has to offer in safe, welcoming surroundings," Ms Elliot said.
